Chen Rui is now very very talkative. She talks all the time and seems to enjoy it. Sometimes Michelle doesn't understand what she says, because her sentence structure is sometimes incoherent, or the words she uses are confusing. I think her urge to chat has surpassed her ability to articulate what she means. I'm not sure whether I am imagining it. It seems she started being more chatty only after coming back from KK. When in KK both Mei and Ba commented that she was talking much more than before. Did that sway my impression or is Chen Rui really getting much more talkative than before?
Today Chen Rui saw the small bottle of Fanta orange in the fridge and said she wanted to try it. It was part of the 我来也肉干 package deal. She has not seen glass-bottled softdrinks before, if I remember correctly, only canned or plastic bottled (and plastic capped) softdrinks. So she was amazed when I showed her how to use a bottle opener to open the metal cap. Today she wanted to play with a toilet paper centre (the cardboard tube thing at the centre of a toilet paper roll). She had asked Michelle to keep it for her. This afternoon she asked me for a small piece of cling wrap (保鲜纸), so that she could wrap one end of it. She said she wanted to use it as a hailer. I told her if she wrapped up one end of it, the sound wouldn't come out. Then she told me she wanted to make a telescope instead. I let her play by herself.
Later she came to me with both her hands all blue. She wanted to paint her telescope blue, and helped herself to paint and paintbrush. However because the cling wrapped part was water resistant, she couldn't paint that part properly, and got her own hands all blue. She told me she wanted to throw the telescope away. I brought her to the rubbish bin to dispose of it, and afterwards told her to wash her hands thoroughly. Chen Rui is quite creative. She's also rebel, and likes being unconventional.
Shee Yun is the compliant type and is always keen to please. I think she grows under praise and appreciation. So maybe she will grow up to take some prim and proper profession, while Chen Rui becomes some mad scientist or crazy artist. I should revisit this blog post in 20 years' time to see whether this prediction proves accurate.
