One day Shee Yun spoke to Michelle and I about a Spring Song that she has been playing on the piano, and how she is changing it, and there is now a Spring Song 2. It took me a while to realise that she meant she had composed a song, based on the Spring Song, which she named Spring Song 2. I was very surprised she has thought of composing a song. I asked her to show me the song, but she declined saying she hasn't written it down yet. She is probably not so good at writing down a song into a musical score.
When Shee Yun plays songs on the piano, she doesn't rely on musical scores much. She only needs them when she starts learning the song. Once she gets familiar with the song, she remembers it by the keys on the piano and not by the notes on the musical score. Michelle is quite amazed by that. I think it's good, to get past the notation on paper and get straight to the music.
One thing that Shee Yun sometimes does when crossing a road is she makes a stop gesture (palm facing out) at the oncoming (but slowing down) car, and when she sees that the car is slowing down, or even just being slow enough anyway to give her ample time to cross the road, she makes a good sign (thumb up) at the car. She's like a boss or what...
It seems that now that the children have started BM tuition, Shee Yun likes to use Malay when she sees Malays. An Indonesian contracter has been helping us do tiling for the driveway, and once when we came home and met him, Shee Yun said to him, "Saya panas" (I feel hot). Then yesterday at the library when she found the date checker guy (who checks the due date stamp of every book before you can leave) missing, she wondered aloud, "Di mana?". These are not full sentences, but I think they are a good start. I think Shee Yun simply enjoys making use of what she has learnt.
Michelle told me that Chen Rui likes to bully Cikgu Rokiah their BM tuition teacher (also their kindergarten teacher). During tuition Michelle keeps hearing Chen Rui say "I'm tired" when Cikgu Rokiah asks her to write.
And Rose just died today. The 5th incarnation of their baby seal toy is called Daisy. Well, Rose is the longest lived so far. I think they kill off a character whenever they want a new name for the baby seal. Maybe I need to advise them to simply rename it. When Shee Yun told me the news, and I asked her how Rose died, she said she didn't know. I suggested whether it was because Rose played with the electric socket and got electrocuted. She nodded and said that was how it happened. Is this sublime message about not playing with electric sockets a bit too graphical (not that they children ever played with sockets)? I even acted out the shuddering of an electrocution.
