Chen Rui and Yung Jian

Chen Rui used to tell us that she doesn't like Yung Jian because he coughed while facing her. Apparently Yung Jian also knows about it. So it seems these two cousins are off to a bad start in getting to know each other. Yesterday at Michelle's parents place they both surprised us by playing together. Yung Jian is older now and is able to communicate with and play together with his older cousins.

Ma says Chen Rui speaks much more than before. The last time we were in KK was only less than two months ago, but Ma felt the difference. Michelle and I speak to Chen Rui everyday so we don't notice the change. What I do notice is sometimes when in front of her teachers, or in front of other adults, Chen Rui is shy and isn't as talkative as when with us.

Chen Rui draws a lot, and many of her drawings impress me. Not because of any outstanding skill, but because of what she tries to express and communicate. Here's an art gallery of her works.

Chen Rui often draws heart characters. There is definitely a story in this drawing. Looks like the mummy heart is scolding the daughter heart, but I'm not sure for what.

A little girl holding a microphone and singing. This was drawn before Chen Rui started her piano lessons.

Fairies, the one in the middle being Tinkerbell.

Family of hearts. Notice the pencils in daddy heart's shirt pocket, and also how intricate the shopping baskets are.

I notice that lately she started adding words to her drawings. One girl singing, and one girl dancing under a spotlight.

Two hearts dancing under a spotlight?

The sun looks like it is still sleepy and is yawning. The clouds consist of 8 curves, which is the same formula as Shee Yun's.

Another drawing with words. Notice the girls wearing high-heeled shoes.

I wonder what she is trying to express. The upper half looks like the perpective of someone reading a book at a desk.

A teacher teaching little girls to dance? Notice how the teacher is drawn to be behind the girls.

She used a ruler to draw those squares on the right. Are those windows or presents? Or something else?
