nevah

Sometimes when Shee Yun asks Chen Rui to do something, or whether she likes something, instead of a simple "No", Chen Rui says, "Nevah!" (Never). I don't know where she learned this. It reminds me of the Michael Cain butler character in the Batman movies, when saying he would "nevah" give up on Bruce Wayne, his young master.

I started story-telling with the children again. After a period of no story-telling, I am now able to sometimes come up with new stories to tell them. I have told them about a 一休 story (the Japanese cartoon about a clever child monk). I told them about 诸葛亮 in 空城计. This one may have caused Shee Yun to have a nightmare. She had a nightmare that night when I told this story, and came to our room to look for us. Maybe it is because the story was a war story, despite the comical elements that I added myself, e.g. how the enemy generals were bickering among themselves in a silly manner, and how 诸葛亮 was playing Mary Had a Little Lamb on his 古筝. The next day when Michelle wanted to tell them the story about 诸葛亮 and 草船借箭, Shee Yun said she didn't want to hear it. Looks like I will need to look for non war related stories.

18 Nov 2011. Shee Yun at school wearing her dance costume.

19 Nov 2011. Whenever we take a lift, Chen Rui always wants to press the buttons. Usually Shee Yun lets her press the button outside the lift (which she usually can reach) to hail a lift, and then Shee Yun presses the button of the floor we want to go to after we get into the lift.

Sometimes Shee Yun wants to press the Door Open button and wait for all of us to go out before she gets out herself.

Both children sometimes call me "Silly Baba", because I often act silly to entertain them.

In our recent trip to Fraser's Hill, I played Catapult with Shee Yun again, and was surprised I could still lift her up with my legs. I sat at the edge of the bed, extending my legs straight. Then she sat on my feet, and I lifted her up, and threw her sideways onto the bed. I am not strong enough to catapult her over my head, and she might hit the wall if I do that. I used to play Catapult with the children when they were younger. They are much heavier now.

You can download some Chinese stories that instil good traditional culture from Apple store. I think some of them are free. You can also tell them 成语故事。 Look up the Chinese website for 幼儿教育or similar sites for stories for different ages. It is not about story telling per-see; it is about character building.
