For Michelle's birthday, I designed a card for her which read like a comic book and had windows showing drawings on the next page. I got Shee Yun and Chen Rui to help me with colouring. I told them this was to be a secret and they must not tell Michelle. That very day when Michelle came home Chen Rui ran to her and told her that there was a secret which she (Chen Rui) must not tell her (Michelle). 此地无银三百两.
Both the children like the card a lot. They find it very amusing and read it over and over, acting the various roles. By the time we showed the card to Michelle they could memorise the card. When doing the colouring, I found that Chen Rui applied what she had probably learnt from her extra art classes at school. When I asked her to colour something a certain colour, she took two colour pencils in two shades of that colour. She said there should be "shading", i.e. the darker parts of an object (e.g. the lower edge of a ball) should have a darker shade.
Both children added their own ideas to the card. I drew all four of us in the card. Chen Rui added a heart shape to her dress. Shee Yun added a rather complicated-looking butterfly to hers. I didn't draw any hair band on Michelle's hair, but when Shee Yun coloured her hair, she added one. Maybe she just mistook part of my drawing as a hair band. The most creative thing was added by Chen Rui. She added a pack of biscuits, and explained to me that she was holding that pack and looking for someone to help her open it. She said that she always looks for Michelle to help her open these packs (the card was about the three of us looking for Michelle). Such vivid imagination.
After completing the card (over two afternoons when Michelle was not home), I hid it to wait for the day to give it to Michelle. Shee Yun asked me a few times when we were going to present the card. She remembered, even though it was out of sight.

Where's the photo of the card?!
Haven't taken any photo of the card. It's for Michelle's eyes only. :-)
