taming the dragon

Yesterday at dinner time Chen Rui ate extremely slowly. Michelle gave her some potates and carrots and I think she didn't like them. She kept the food in her mouth and only occasionally chewed. She ate very very slowly. One of the mouthfuls took probably more than 10 minutes. I scolded her and she cried before she swallowed that mouthful. We started feeding her at 6pm. She ate very slowly, and was very distracted (mostly by the TV). At first we warned her that if she didn't eat properly we'd throw away her food by 7pm. She didn't speed up. We extended the deadline till 8pm, i.e. after we'd had our own dinners, done the dishes, and cleaned up. Still she hadn't finished her dinner. For a few times we asked whether she still wanted the food. Yet she said yes every time. Eventually at 8pm Michelle dumped the food into the bin and got Chen Rui to watch. We plan to apply this rule from now on. She finishes her food, or it well be taken away from her and she won't be allowed to have any desserts, milk, biscuits, etc for the rest of the evening. 2 hours of feeding her is ridiculous.

Chen Rui was pissed off with us. She told me she was angry with me and didn't want me. She said the same to Michelle. She can be quite stubborn. She sometimes doesn't listen to reason and is outright disobedient. Yesterday at one stage I was very angry with her (when I scolded her for not eating properly), and at another stage Michelle was very angry with her (when she told Michelle that she didn't want her). I bathed her while Michelle cooled down. Eventually later on she went to Michelle and said sorry to Michelle. I didn't ask her to do so. I only found out much later when Michelle told me. I guess that means Chen Rui is not beyond hope. We need to be patient to tame her dragon. Maybe we need to tame our own dragons too.

This morning I got very angry with her again and scolded her. We were still playing in the morning right after she woke up. Then later when I made milk for her and Shee Yun, she refused to drink it because she wanted more. She usually doesn't drink milk in the morning and sometimes when she does, she doesn't finish it. So I don't make as much milk for her as I do for Shee Yun. I told her that she could start drinking, and she finished it and wanted more, I would make more. She wouldn't listen. That was when I scolded her and told her to take it or leave it. Michelle took over to persuade her to drink the milk, which Michelle eventually managed to do.

Today we went to the library, and then KLCC. It was a cloudy day, and since Michelle felt cold after having red ruby for dessert, we went to watch the KLCC fountain and (using Shee Yun's exact word) "explored" the area. It was a nice addition to our routine of library then KLCC then Kinokuniya then Sushi King then kidde rides.

Shee Yun said she liked this fountain as much as the one at Mid Valley.

Chen Rui and her almost obligatory victory sign when posing for photos.

Shee Yun told us she wanted to go exploring this "island" which had pink flowers.

It was actually a peninsula. We were able to walk there.

The flowers were fallen flowers on the ground, not picked from the tree.

Chen Rui had a single-side single-eyelid day.
